The Salvation Army’s Motto – Others!

William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army, once sent a letter to all of his officers. When they opened it, it simply said others.

Below is a short video clip from this past weekend when I spoke at the Secrets of the Heart event held at The Salvation Army’s beautiful 800 acre property in Bourbon, Missouri called Camp Mihaska.

I’m definitely going back there for either a personal getaway or a marriage getaway or both! If you live close by and want to take a group for a retreat I encourage you to check it out. It’s so quiet and peaceful. They also have various camps from the end of May through the end of July each year.

If you don’t live close, there is probably a Salvation Army Retreat somewhere near you. How do I know? Because I asked the awesome camp directors, Terry and Joanie Mahurin, to give our family both the historical and physical tour of this particular camp and The Salvation Army in general. We loved every minute of it! And Terry and Joanie, who live on site, are two of the most compassionate people I know.

We found out The Salvation Army has 128 locations worldwide and guess where most of their donations come from? The Tree of Lights campaign – you know, the bell ringers that stand outside the stores during the holidays and give us an opportunity to help others.

After hearing the stories we heard this past weekend and witnessing for ourselves that The Salvation Army is not about money, but they are all about helping people, my family and I will probably scream “It’s a bell ringer!” this holiday season every time we see one, thrilled to have another opportunity to give.

And just to be clear, The Salvation Army did not ask me to mention any of this. They didn’t even hint at it. I just wanted to honor them for their devotion to God and humanity!

Now, I hope you enjoy this clip from my message:

If you have not yet made Jesus your Savior and received the wonderful joy that His finished work on the cross has provided for you to live in, please visit my page here titled Jesus In The Driver’s Seat. On this page I explain the good news of the gospel and you will have the opportunity to pray a prayer of salvation, making Jesus your Savior! Jesus loves you and His arms are wide open!
